In Somalia, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is committed to strengthening public safety and security. To achieve this, reliable and seamless communication between security teams in Mogadishu and those stationed in remote areas is critical. However, traditional two-way radios often fall short in covering extended distances and enabling smooth coordination.
To address these challenges, UNDP adopted Telox’s comprehensive communication ecosystem, which includes BN500, M6L, TE800, TE620G, TG800 Gateway, and the TeloPTT platform. This integrated solution has transformed communication for security teams, ensuring real-time, secure, and reliable connectivity across regions.
I. Limited Coverage: Traditional radios could not connect teams across Mogadishu and distant field locations.
II. Fragmented Communication: Different groups using different radio systems faced interoperability issues.
III. Operational Inefficiency: Delays in information sharing hindered swift decision-making and coordination.
IV. Scalability Barriers: Expanding coverage required costly and complex infrastructure upgrades.
I. BN500 Hybrid Dual-Mode Handheld (DMR+LTE): Simultaneously supports DMR and PoC, featuring 2W DMR transmit power to ensure reliable communication for field stations in weak network environments.
II. TG800 Gateway: Enables real-time voice interworking between DMR/LMR and PoC groups, allowing users inside and outside the city to “directly call with one button and synchronize group calls”;
Built-in automatic speech recognition and advanced codecs enhance audio clarity in noisy and weak signal environments.
III. M6L Vehicle Terminal: High-power external speaker and vehicle antenna interface ensure stable communication during fleet operations.
IV. TE800 Smart Handheld (PoC): Ideal for shift supervisors and field commanders, supporting video evidence capture and large-screen operation.
V. TE620G Smart Handheld (PoC): Lightweight and durable, designed for headquarters security and all-weather patrol duty.
VI. TeloPTT Platform: Unified command and dispatch supporting individual/group calls, priority calls, call recording, map positioning, and video/image uploads;
Dual encryption (AES128+RSA128) safeguards public safety communications.
